This ordinary woman

From the need for spirit to worship the Spirit, the woman at the well turns to the promise of a Messiah that will help us all. It is always easier if one descends from heaven to help than if we are asked to lift our minds and hearts up to heaven to receive help. Therefore, many we waiting for a special one to descend from heaven, even this Samaritan:

25 The woman saith unto him, “I know that Messiah comes (he that is called Christ): when that One comes, he will declare all things to us.”

26 Jesus said to her, “I that speak to you am he.”

This ordinary woman, not of the chosen people, draws more out of Jesus than many others who asked questions of him. In her discussion with Jesus we learn of the water of life, of the nature of God, the way to worship God, and that the fulfillment of the prophecy in Daniel is Jesus of Nazareth. In a rare self-testimonial, Jesus acknowledges to the woman that he is indeed the prophesied Christ. “Christ” is a transliteration of the Greek word “christos,” which literally means “anointed one,” a stage in the preparation of the high priest to enter the Holy of Holies to meet God directly. The priest’s head was to be anointed with oil, usually olive oil: Exodus 29:7, “Then shalt thou take the anointing oil, and pour it upon his head, and anoint him.” This process may also have been experienced by ordinary people, as written in the Psalms; one good example is Psalm 23:5, “Thou hast anointed my head with oil; My cup runneth over.” A better translation of this term might be “a consecrated one,” as in Exodus 29:29, “And the holy garments of Aaron shall be for his sons after him, to be anointed in them, and to be consecrated in them.” The anointing was to consecrate one for a special service. The corresponding word for christos in Hebrew is “mashiyach,” which we transliterate to messiah. This very specific term is only found in Daniel 9:25-26. Messiah means exactly what christos means, just two different languages. There are several scriptural references to the coming of a special one to help the people. The first and most important one is directly from the Lord; as His creation falls from grace in the Garden, He prophesies that the woman’s seed will become the redeemer of this situation and will subdue the influence of the serpent and the knowledge of good and evil (Genesis 3:15). The Samaritan woman was obviously familiar with the prophecies and looking for the messiah to come in her lifetime. John’s use of Logos lends support to the Messiah-Christ nature of this one.

Many prophets had come and gone, and many roamed the Holy Land in the days of this Samaritan woman. But the truth had gotten lost in the troubles and confusions of the times.

December 21, 2012: A Mayan Age Ends
By John Van Auken

At present, the year 2012 is only of interest to those of us who believe in the wisdom of ancient cultures. But soon, very soon, everyone is going to be looking for more information about this Mayan prophesied year of destiny, which many believe to be the end of the Mayan calendar and thus the end of time, as we have known it. Let’s look at this calendar and this specific date more closely.

  16. blessedistruth Says:

Dems look to alter filibuster rules

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, Kentucky Republican, contrasted Mr. Schumer’s remarks. The Kentucky Republican highlighted the consistent nature of his own position on the filibuster rules:
“It probably comes as no great surprise that I am not in favor of such a proposal. I never have been, including when I served in the Majority.”

“I submit that the effort to change the rules is not about democracy. It is not about doing what a majority of the American people want. It is about power.”

“If it were truly about doing what a majority of Americans wanted, the Democratic Majority in the Senate would not have muscled through a health spending bill that a majority of Americans opposed—and opposed by wide margins. When that bill finally passed the Senate, 39% of Americans favored it, while 59% opposed it, according to CNN. Other surveys had similar results.”

“No, what this is about is power. It is about a political party—or a faction of a political party—that is frustrated that it cannot do whatever it wants, whenever it wants, precisely the way it wants to do it. That’s what this is about.”

In the meantime, Democratic Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Nevada, filed for cloture on Thursday scheduling the first test vote on the financial regulation reform bill on Monday. If the test vote shows the GOP can keep all forty – one GOP senators committed to mounting a filibuster, expect to see more Democrats flip-flop on their previous position on the filibuster rules. How convenient.

    How to stop this?

  17. blessedistruth Says:

Democrats Look to Eliminate Filibuster rule

The big question here is whether the Democrats can or should do this.

From a legal viewpoint Senate rules require 2/3 vote to change any Senate rules.

However, the Senate can change existing procedures that are deemed unconstitutional by 50 senators and if the President of the Senate (Joe Biden) agree.

Would the courts jump in to stop the Democrats if they decided to proceed with this farce?

Doubtful, there is a long standing doctrine called the Political Question Doctrine which basically states that the SCOTUS will not rule on political issues like rule disputes in other branches of the government.

The more important question is should the Democrats do this?

Obviously if you are a Republican they shouldn’t, but if you are a Democrat you should probably be against this too, and here’s why.

At some point the Republicans will control the Senate again.

If you eliminate the filibuster rule, guess how many votes it would take to overturn all of Obamacare?

    Yep, 51.

While they were at it they could eliminate the IRS, the Department of Education and Social Security, sounds like a good idea to me.

Anyone for a game of Global thermonuclear war?

Ariz. gov. to act on immigration enforcement bill

PHOENIX — Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer on Friday neared a deadline to act on the nation’s toughest legislation against illegal immigration.

The sweeping measure would make it a crime under state law to be in the country illegally. It would also require local police officers to question people about their immigration status if there is reason to suspect they are illegal.

A Saturday deadline for Brewer, a Republican, to act on the bill was set on Monday when the legislation arrived on her desk. She can sign, veto or allow it to become law without her signature.

The bill’s sponsor, Republican Sen. Russell Pearce of Mesa, said it would remove “political handcuffs” from police and help drive illegal immigrants from the state.

“Illegal is illegal,” said Pearce, a driving force on the issue in Arizona. “We’ll have less crime. We’ll have lower taxes. We’ll have safer neighborhoods. We’ll have shorter lines in the emergency rooms. We’ll have smaller classrooms.”

Arizona has an estimated 460,000 illegal immigrants and is the nation’s busiest border crossing point.

“It is a crisis. And unless the federal government steps up to do things that we know work that aren’t that expensive in the overall scheme, we are going to see more and more reaction of the people who are fed up with it.” -U.S. Senate Republican Whip Jon Kyl speaking to FNC’s Greta Van Susteren about the high level of violence and smuggling on the Arizona and southwest U.S. border resulting from illegal drug and human trafficking and the failure by the federal governement to protect its border. Aired April 21, 2010.

  21. blessedistruth Says:

PHOENIX — Crime is ever present, but new numbers give a glimpse into how much is linked to illegal immigrants.

According to statistics obtained by CBS 5 News, 19 percent of the inmates in Maricopa County Jail are suspected illegal immigrants being held on an immigration or U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement hold.

In Pima County, the number of inmates suspected of being illegal immigrants is around 10 percent.

In Pinal County, the number of inmates suspected of being illegal immigrants is around 30 percent.

Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu said if Gov. Jan Brewer signs the immigration bill to toughen Arizona’s immigration laws, the amount of crime in local communities would drop dramatically.

“These are people that are always armed and they’re creating an extreme risk to my deputies — and that, I’m not going to tolerate,” said Babeu.

  22. blessedistruth Says:

Brewer, who faces a contested Aug. 24 Republican primary, is among numerous officeholders and candidates who have toured the border since Krentz’s death.

One of Brewer’s primary election opponents, State Treasurer Dean Martin, called on her to sign the legislation.

“This bill was introduced many months ago, any additional delay is unacceptable. Failure to act exposes Arizona law enforcement officers, citizens, and their property to further harm,” Martin said.

  23. blessedistruth Says:

Wynn also criticized the policies of President Barack Obama, continuing a dialogue he began in October when he appeared on several Fox News television talk shows to lambaste the administration’s handling of the economy.

It was his announcement that he is considering moving his headquarters and some 100 corporate staff to Macau that attracted most of the attention locally, though.

    To: Sen Jack S. Fogbound

    Exactly my point.

In 1961, it is on record that Hawaii would issue BCs or COLBs to foreign born children on request of one family member (grandma?) as long as that member resided in Hawaii. Probably for the utilitarian reason that the child could get school registration, etc.

I imagine the adult vouching for the child would need to provide some sort of verifying info/doc on the identity of the child (foreigh BC?).

So this process probably means Madelyn Dunham (grandma) provided whatever is on file that Hawaii mentions in the infamous Fukino statement.

They NEVER describe (no doubt carefully and by design, lest they become complicit) that whatever they have is a Hawaiian BC, or proves a Hawaii birth for Obama. They circle around it with blather, very conspicuous.

The enabling media has blocked and tackled for Obama VERY strategically—and dishonestly— by omitting this key aspect—over and over—while otherwise blasting out that Hawaii has “confirmed” having O’s “BC” on file.

    It stinks to high heaven.

Democrats set initial showdown vote on financial overhaul as GOP insists on more bargaining

That drew a quick response from the Republican leader, Mitch McConnell of Kentucky: “I don’t think bipartisanship is a waste of time.”

Without an accord with the GOP, which was blocking the start of formal debate on the bill, Democrats would need 60 votes to move ahead in the Senate. Despite some signs of wavering, all 41 Republicans in the 100-member Senate remained publicly opposed on Thursday.

Reid was eager to test the Republican resolve, even as bipartisan negotiations continued. Reid conceded that the timetable for a vote could change if the talks bear fruit.

I pray to God these 41 Senate Repubs stick together and force a truly bipartisan bill.

Someone has to say “No!” to these people.

  33. blessedistruth Says:

State lawmakers expressing doubt over Obama’s birthplace want candidates to prove citizenship

The bill now goes to the Senate, where supporters are trying to pull together enough votes to pass the measure. If they do, it’s unclear if Republican Gov. Jan Brewer will give it her support. Her spokesman, Paul Senseman, said the governor won’t comment on pending legislation, but he added she doesn’t have doubts about Obama’s citizenship.

The measure comes amid a string of controversial proposals in Arizona that have garnered national attention, including a sweeping illegal immigration crackdown awaiting action by the governor and a measure allowing people to carry concealed weapons without permits. The governor signed the gun bill last week.

Rep. Tom Chabin pleaded with his colleagues to oppose the birth certificate measure Wednesday.

“When you undermine the sitting president of the United States, you undermine our nation, and it makes us look very ugly,” Chabin said Thursday.

But some supporters insist the bill isn’t aimed at Obama, it’s just common sense.

“It’s our ballot,” said state Sen. Jack Harper, who believes Obama has proven his citizenship. “The parties need to prove that their nominee is eligible to hold the office of president to be on our ballot.”

“it makes us look very ugly”

The only ugly American here is BHO, who could have have put this issue to bed a long time ago.

Mark Steyn on media and politics on both sides of the Atlantic

    HH: That’s true. True.

Now I want to move to media, and you mentioned Bill Clinton’s op-ed in the New York Times, a despicable exercise in absolute incendiary rhetoric.

    But it’s now spread everywhere.

I’m afraid I’ve cost Donny Deutsch his job, because I made this passing reference to Keith Olbermann and Ed Schultz as being hatemongers, and he was insufficiently vigorous in his defense of them, so he’s now been exited, stage left, left, left at MSNBC.

What is going on out there, Mark Steyn, as you watch this hand-wringing about political rhetoric, when it’s in fact not even that heated right now?

MS: No, I don’t think it’s heated at all,

but I think the media recognized this as a real threat to Obama, and to the new, what they see as the Europeanization of America, which is something the media, like Obama and the Democrats, favor.

And in fact, these Tea Parties are, by the standards of these things, extremely moderate and well-behaved and civilized.

And so the only trick left is to make it unrespectable to be part of this movement.

Now that’s something that has been politically effective in certain circumstances.

Whether you can actually do it in the internet age, I think, is very unclear.

I’m not so sure, for example, that Clinton’s actually absurd, never mind offensive,

but actually totally, patently absurd linkage of Timothy McVeigh with conservative talk radio fifteen years ago, I’m not so sure that that would be possible now.

But it’s the last trick left.

You’ve got to tell all the squishy, moderate centrist people that getting mixed up with the Obama opposition is somehow dirty and unrespectable, and puts you in the mean-spirited hatemonger camp.

That’s the only trick, it’s the only quiver left what is otherwise a very empty bag.

If so, that could lead to final negotiations and a compromise, assuming Democrats are unwilling to call the GOP’s bluff. Some Capitol Hill sources, however, say it’s unclear if McConnell can keep that voting block together for a second go round, without at least one moderate GOP senator joining the Democrats. And a defection may become more likely if the Democratic leadership waits to hold another vote. “Why are we negotiating with Shelby and not trying to pick off some of the moderate Republicans?” said one Senate source. “Let’s keep hammering away and have them take another vote.”
