05 August

The latest batch of UFO files has been released by The National Archives today, revealing how ‘unexplained aerial phenomena’ were taken so seriously in 1957 they were discussed by the Cabinet Office’s Joint Intelligence Committee (JIC).

The files also contain dozens of UFO sightings reported to the Ministry of Defence (MoD) between 1995 and 2003, including more than 600 instances in 1996 alone. The files are available to download for free for a month at nationalarchives.gov.uk/ufos.

UFO files: Winston Churchill ‘feared panic’ over Second World War RAF incident

Winston Churchill was accused of ordering a cover-up of a Second World War encounter between a UFO and a RAF bomber because he feared public “panic” and loss of faith in religion, newly released secret files disclose.

I’ve just included a very small portion of files released.

I imagine it’s going to take awhile for experts to go through to determine what it all means.

  3. blessedistruth Says:

“Mr Churchill is reported to have made a declaration to the effect of the following:

‘This event should be immediately classified since it would create mass panic among the general population and destroy one’s belief in the Church’.”

Apart from telling his daughter – the scientist’s mother – about the incident when she was nine, the bodyguard, who was “greatly affected by his experience”, only disclosed the details to his wife on his deathbed in 1973.

The scientist, also an expert in astronomy who said he developed software for use in “spacecraft thermal engineering”, was told years later by his mother.

Stressing he was not a “crackpot”, he said he wanted to investigate the science behind the incident after his grandfather, who was bound by the Official Secrets Act, remained convinced that the object was secret technology being tested by a foreign power.

After investigating the claims, an MoD official said there was no evidence to support the claims as all “UFO files before 1967 were destroyed after five years” due to insufficient public interest.

This was supported by a Cabinet Office official.

While there was documents supporting the events, historians last night believed it more than likely occurred.

They said that Churchill had a known interest with UFOs, even asking for a report in 1952 on “flying saucers” and what it “amounted to”.

Dr David Clarke, author of The UFO files and Senior Lecturer in Journalism at Sheffield Hallam University, said the “fascinating” files showed the level of concern about such “bizarre incidents” during the war.

“It does tie in with what we already know as you have to remember that this was also long before the phrase UFO was created,” he said.

“I suspect there is an element of truth to the statement.”

    To: Uncle Chip

I have a couple posts I want to put up on my blog that people can link to so that media entities know what the law says as well as what the true facts regarding Obama’s documentation and the Constitution’s requirements are.

Maybe do a FAQ to debunk the usual lies.

I wanted to use a recent example in the post but my computer has been hacked and the very e-mails I wanted to use were taken off my computer.

Everything else but those has been saved to disc, so it’s not a big deal except the time and hassle involved.

It’s taking some time to retrieve the files off the hard drive because the pins on my computer don’t match the adapters we’ve got.

I think the virus on my computer is keeping the computer itself from being able to retrieve the files so we’ll have to take out the hard drive and hook it up to another computer to retrieve the data – after we find an adapter to allow that.

In the meantime I suppose I could post the rest of the post and then just link to the actual e-mails when I’ve retrieved them.

Well, both sides of this debate are guilty of thinking along those lines.

Maybe Doc, Bird, Will, Sneezy, and Dopey think that “birfers” isn’t the slightest bit condescending.

    Noonan, On The Malaise

    Posted by: Hugh Hewitt

    http://hughhewitt.com/blog/g/30935af7-1041-4022-8348-b29fd731fb9f

I’m much more interested in Hewitt’s commentary than on anything Noonan writes:

The opposition to where we have been brought by Obama-Pelosi-Reid so accurately described by Noonan has to describe where we can in fact go if we are serious and purposeful.

In fact the distribution of massive amounts of empowering technology across the globe and throughout America does make it possible that the future of the country and of the West will be extraordinarily, mind-bogglingly vibrant.

There is also a rising new leadership class led by veterans of the success in Iraq, of the silent war against extremism around the world, and of the determined and still ongoing battle in Iraq that will re-energize Washington within a decade or at most two.

(Read the Team Rubicon posts from the Burma border in the days ahead if you want to see the sort of people the country has raised up by the tens of thousands who do not often make the MSM’s radar.)

But the Congressional GOP needs to know and embrace that

it will need to move very fast if it emerges with a big win on November 2, and that

the battle over the direction and suffocating size of the federal government will have to be joined immediately,

and fought with a pace and a determination that was lacking throughout the Bush years,

when the good but amiable and very slow leadership team of Hastert/Lott-Frist treated their majorities as eternal and their job as to support the president in the war in the first term and on all other things conduct business as usual.

    Energy produces energy.

The reason the Democrats are out of gas and out of luck headed into the last 88 days of the campaign is that they have no plan, no strategy and no leadership.

(Oh, I don’t agree. But their plan isn’t what many Americans bargained for. i.e., America hasn’t bought into their plan, thank God!)

The GOP’s Congressional leadership will have to show America that there is a way out of this mess even if the president and his team are blocking it until 2013.

(Is Obama too ideological to change? It seems so.)

We have seen this play before and it ends well.

If you have a Reagan, (and if that Reagan has a Noonan, a Robinson, etc).

(comparing Obama to Carter, which I’m not sure is a fair comparison to either.)

    ***

Still, I wonder if Obama will even run again. If not, it’s a whole new ballgame.

You’ve got sniper attacks and riots in Oakland, the third-worst rated crime city in the U.S.

East St. Louis has a crime index of 3: That means it’s safer than only 3 percent of cities in the country, which means it is only slightly safer than Oakland.

They just cut 19 officers and will have, at times, only one patrol cop on dangerous night shifts.

Thugs practically shoot at cops for sport in Philadelphia these days. It’s so bad the mayor had to ask citizens to help police. Really?

Beautiful Newark (which recently celebrated going a whopping 43 days without a murder — congratulations!) is getting cocky; they are considering cutting 250 police officers.

The cops have to go, yet in Oakland they keep $7 million in costs for museums. You will lose the art in the riots anyway.

Newark has $39,608,662 set aside for “Neighborhood and Recreational Services.”

As much fun as Newark is, I think we can cut back on all the good times in Newark before slashing the cops.

Philadelphia can save a couple cops right off the bat by cutting the $1 million set aside for mural arts — they already do that for free:

    It’s called graffiti

    — or the $32 million for “free libraries” —

now, I love to read as much as the next guy, but you can’t read when blood is pouring down your face.

In Baltimore, cops are on the chopping block, but that $750,000 for the opera house must stay!

This is like my wife saying we are broke, we have to cut down our expenses on food.

I turn around and say, OK, when you grocery shop, no more meats, organics, milk — we’re cutting that out.

Just get Mountain Dew and Cheetos. You wouldn’t believe me if I said that, wouldn’t you? Cut the Cheetos first!

Would you cut the opera house budget before the cops? This is easy for you to figure out, because you have common sense.

Now, unless everyone involved in Baltimore’s budget process is a moron or something else is going on. How do we make sense of their actions?

Look at the things that you know — that you are not supposed to know:

You know about Cloward and Piven, the Weather Underground and the revolutionaries that surround this administration.

You know that progressivism is a cancer to the republic. And that civil unrest works in revolutionaries’ favor.

    Now, look at those cities.

Do you see any patterns that fit?

As a US Senator, this man used an entirely different Social Security number—282-90-XXXX.

It should have been pretty easy for the federal government’s paymaster to flag this one since this is the best known person in America.

    Obama on latest jobs numbers

    http://blogs.mcclatchydc.com/washington/2010/08/obama-on-latest-jobs-numbers.html

President Obama, speaking during a visit to a small business near the White House today, looked for the good in the latest job numbers report, which found a stagnant 9.5 unemployment rate in which the private sector added 71,000 jobs last month, far below what forecasters hoped.

“July marked the seventh straight month of job creation in the private sector.

So jobs have been growing in the private sector for seven straight months,” the president said at Gelberg Signs.

He also highlighted gains in the long-troubled manufacturing sector, of 183,000 jobs this year.

“That’s the most robust seven months of manufacturing growth in over a decade,” he said.

Obama noted that the July numbers reflect expected losses in census jobs, and that

*** we’ve now added private sector jobs every month this year, instead of losing them, as we did for the first seven months of last year. ***

    And that’s a good sign.”

    ***

    Okay, that IS good!

    But not nearly good enough.

HH: Now Tucker, the reason I was really eager to talk to you, I was abroad for two weeks on vacation when the Journolist story went from interesting, Dave Weigel, to massively important, the Spencer Ackerman emails.

    TC: Yes.

TC: He is a nice guy, yeah.

HH: Yeah, when you’re young, you write things like that.

But the Spencer Ackerman attack on Fred Barnes was a defining moment for me about how important this story is.

Tell me how Journolist, you know, how did you decide to cover it the way you did? Just kind of let the audience know how it developed.

TC: Well, Journolist is, was, of course, this online community of about 400 lefty journalists, and some academics and political activists.

I’d heard about it. There had been one story about it in Politico, and then Mickey Kaus over at Slate had received a few leaked emails.

This was about a year ago, and I thought that sounds pretty interesting, so I had it on my list of things to do, and I emailed Ezra Klein who runs it over at the Washington Post.

I know him, I live here, you know, it’s a small town, and I said I’d love to get on. And he said well you can’t, because you’re not liberal.

And that was sort of annoying, and so I thought well gee, I sure would like to know what’s going on in this thing, so you know, we’re journalists, and we found out.

And we ended up getting quite a few threads from these email conversations delivered to our office.

*** And we’ve discovered that all of the worst preconceptions you ever had about the liberal media, all the kind of foaming, conservative conspiracy theories about how they were in league against Republicans, they’re all true, (laughing) which was a little bit stunning to me, I have to say. ***

I worked at that other network, as you said, so I’ve certainly been around a lot of liberals in the media.

But I just had no idea how out in the open they were about colluding with one another, coordinating their message,

and putting a thumb on the scale on behalf of Democratic candidates,

*** and Barack Obama in particular ***

HH: Now I must say, Tucker, in the old days, I used to say there is no liberal media conspiracy. There is a liberal media mindset.

*** But like Fred Barnes, I’ve had to correct my approach now. ***

TC: Well, I kind of agree with that, Hugh.

In fact, that’s almost exactly, I don’t think I said it quite as artfully as you did, but that’s exactly the point that I would always make, is that this is

*** an unintentional conspiracy of people from similar background, with similar worldviews, they’re all pro-choice, they’re all secular, they’re all for gun control, they’re all, you know, suspicious of religion. ***

They have a certain way of looking at the world. They all went to impressive Eastern schools, et cetera, et cetera.

    They’re all from the coasts.

But they’re not really getting together and trying to figure out how to subvert news coverage in order to help candidates.

*** Well, it turns out, at least with Barack Obama, they were doing just that. ***

I’ve never heard an official explanation for it though I learn something interesting last night. (I’ll have to find the thread)

Snopes has a post that’s dead wrong about Obama Sr.

Basically they claim he left SAD when Obama was 5 (he was 2 and she remarried when he was 3) and moved to Connecticut, when we know he moved to Mass.

After I saw that it dawned on me, Snopes is giving Obama cover for the Conn SS#.

They’ll simply claim his Daddy got it for Jr. while Sr. living there.

I can’t prove that is why they’d have such false information on their site but it’s as good of an explanation as I can come up with.

As for why he actually has one?

Simple – it’s as fake as he is.

Another Obama puzzle: 3rd grade in 2 countries?

    Noelani Elementary School in Honolulu

    Obama classmate Scott Inoue

WND asked Inoue how Obama could have been with him in Hawaii in the third grade, contrary to the accepted narrative placing Obama in Indonesia at the time.

“I don’t have any explanation,” he said.

“Truthfully, I didn’t even remember that Barack Obama was in my class at Noelani until that 1966-1967 kindergarten class photo surfaced, showing Barack and me in it,” Inoue said.

“Then my mother found the picture of the two of us together in third grade, in 1969. Otherwise, I probably would never have remembered.”

    [….]

    No explanation

Inoue told WND he doesn’t remember how long Obama was at Noelani Elementary in 1969.

“I’m not sure he was there the whole year. I just don’t remember. It was a long time ago, and my memory that far back is not very clear,” he said.

Still, Inoue is convinced the photo is authentic and the handwriting is his mother’s, written in 1969.

“That’s my mother’s handwriting at the bottom of the photo,” Inoue said. “She wrote that inscription at the bottom of the photo in 1969, at the time the photo was taken.”

He doubted his mother would have been mistaken.

Tracing back from 1966-1967 as their school year together in Kindergarten, Obama and Inoue would have been in first grade during school year 1967-1968; second grade during 1968-1969; and third grade during 1969-1970.

This timeline would have made Mrs. Inoue’s inscription the correct year for third grade, except that Obama left Hawaii for Indonesia in October 1967 and enrolled Jan. 1, 1968, at the Catholic Franciscan Assisi Primary School, in Jakarta, for the first of his two years at that school.

After attending the Catholic Franciscan Assisi Primary School, the official Obama school timeline has him enrolled at Sekolah Dasar Negeri Besuki, a public school in the Menteng District of Jakarta.

The exact date Obama enrolled at the Sekolah Dasar Negeri Besuki public school remains unclear, as no school registration documents have yet surfaced.

But the official Obama school timeline remains that he left Hawaii at age 6, in 1967, and did not return to Hawaii until in 1971, at 10 years old.

    Even Inoue remains confused.

In concluding the interview, he asked, “If you ever figure it out, would you please let me know?”

    ***

Gosh, I know just how Inoue feels!

Obama, Border Security and The Emerging Failed State of Mexico

    Posted by: Hugh Hewitt

Things are getting worse in Mexico according to the Los Angeles Times this morning.

(Go to HughHewitt for link to LA Times story.)

With the prospects increasing of a failed state dominated by the cartels on our southern border, what has President Obama done about increasing border security?

How much of the real fence –not the failed “virtual” fence– has been accelerated during his tenure?

How much of the stimulus was spent on border security?

How has Janet Napolitano done in her job as tsar of border security?

(I cannot believe Napolitano doesn’t want to do more. It can be done. It has been done successfully along other sectors.)

The president’s indifference to conditions along the border and the escalating chaos in Mexico is of a piece with his general nonchalance to all crises abroad that cannot be blamed on America.

Iran is about to go nuclear, Chavez is increasingly erratic and threatening, and parts of Mexico are sliding into the status of Somalia West.

But the president thinks this is “Recovery Summer” and that the car business is doing just fine.

    CD5:

Democrat Harry Mitchell is seeking a third term in office. Six Republicans are running in the primary for the chance to face him in November, along with two third-party candidates.

The most visible Republican primary race is a repeat of the 2008 primary and pits Susan Bitter Smith against David Schwiekert, who won and then lost in the general election to Mitchell. Schwiekert is a former Maricopa County treasurer while Bitter Smith is a member of the Central Arizona Water Conservation District. Schwiekert had $434,000 on hand at the end of June to Bitter Smith’s $330,000. Following the two top fundraisers is Jim Ward, a partner with a venture capital firm who has $172,000 on hand. Other Republicans in the race include Chris Salvino, Mark Spinks and Gentry Lee.

Mitchell had $1.12 million in the bank for his campaign as of June 30.

    CD8:

Four Republicans and one Libertarian are making bids to prevent Democratic Rep. Gabrielle Giffords from earning a third term in Congress.

Former state Sen. Jonathan Paton of Tucson is leading the GOP field. Paton served two terms in the Arizona state House before he was elected to the state Senate in 2008. According to his most recent finance reports, Paton had $286,000 on hand for his campaign.

Jesse Kelly, a project manager with a construction company in Tucson, reported having $160,000 on hand. Brian Miller, an Air Force Reserve pilot from Tucson, had $6,287 on hand.

Republican Jay Quick and Libertarian Steven Stoltz are also running for the seat.

Giffords, meanwhile, has a lot of cash to fend off her challengers; she reported having $2.2 million on hand as of June 30.

    Excerpt

CNN reports: “The Republican governor of Hawaii, Linda Lingle, has recently certified Obama’s birth certificate as legitimate.”

For CNN to accept this alleged certification, some off-the-cuff comments on a radio program reported by only one news organization at the time – WND –

the network would have to know that Lingle’s words conflict both with her own previous statements and with demonstrable facts.

CNN then selectively quotes from Lingle’s radio appearance:

“I had my health director, who is a physician by background, go personally view the birth certificate in the birth records of the Department of Health.

The president was in fact born at Kapi’olani Hospital in Honolulu, Hawaii.

And that’s just a fact. It’s been established he was born here.

I can understand why people want to make certain that the constitutional requirement of being a natural-born American citizen … but the question has been asked and answered.

And I think just we should all move on now.”

I can certainly appreciate that Lingle wants to move on.

If I were her and had handled this matter so unprofessionally and unskillfully, I would want to move on, too.

Did Lingle say she saw the birth certificate? No.

Did Lingle assert that the certification of live birth released by Barack Obama’s campaign is authentic and a copy released by the state of Hawaii? No.

Did CNN note how Lingle’s statement on the radio conflicted with the news release from the Hawaii Department of Health? No.

Did CNN wonder how Lingle could assert as fact the hospital in which Obama was born when no Hawaii official, not even her health director, has ever hinted at such a suggestion? No.

And why did CNN selectively edit Lingle’s comments on that radio show?

Here’s what she actually said, with the italics reflecting words strategically removed from the statement by CNN:

“This issue kept coming up so much in the campaign, and again I think it’s one of those issues that is simply a distraction from the more critical issues that are facing the country.

So I had my health director, who is a physician by background, go personally view the birth certificate in the birth records of the Department of Health, and we issued a news release at that time saying that the president was, in fact, born at Kapi’olani Hospital in Honolulu, Hawaii.

And that’s just a fact and yet people continue to call up and e-mail and want to make it an issue and I think it’s again a horrible distraction for the country by those people who continue this.”

The demonstrable lie is that the state of Hawaii has never issued any news release stating that Obama was born in Kapi’olani Hospital.

Even Kapi’olani refuses to confirm he was born there.

It seems to me the “horrible distraction for the country” is being caused by lying, deceiving public officials who trip themselves up with conflicting statements while actively concealing the very documents that should put this matter to rest – if they are not indeed misrepresenting them entirely.

After all, if it’s illegal for Lingle to release the birth certificate, is it not illegal for her to talk about it, excerpt what is supposedly on it while insisting it’s none of our business?

Has she seen it or hasn’t she?

How does she know he was born in Kapi’olani? Who told her?

I don’t know about you, but I don’t trust politicians and bureaucrats.

Recent polls suggest I am not alone in this respect.

No birth certificate among passport documents

(Lengthy excerpt, but there’s more at link.)

Passport documents for Stanley Ann Dunham Soetoro recently released by the State Department did not include any birth-certificate documentation for Barack Obama, despite a memorandum in the file claiming he was born in Honolulu.

The released documents indicate Dunham’s husband, Lolo Soetoro, petitioned the Immigration and Naturalization Service of the State Department in 1967 to obtain a waiver to return to the United States to rejoin his wife and her infant son, Barack Obama Jr.

A WND timeline drawn from the State Department’s July 29 Freedom of Information Act release of passport documents indicates Lolo Soetoro returned to Indonesia July 20, 1966, after completing his studies at the University of Hawaii.

Soetoro was required to complete a mandatory two-year residence requirement in Indonesia before he could be granted a visa to return to the U.S.

In an apparent attempt to establish the nationality of Barack Obama Jr., a person named Mix submitted a poorly typed and difficult-to-decipher memo to the file, dated Sept. 14, 1967, without identifying any official position he or she may have held with State Department at that time.

The memo is written pursuant “to inquiry from Central office regarding the status of the applicants’ spouses’ child by a former marriage.” (sic)

    The next paragraph reads:

“The person in question [Barack Obama, Jr.] is a united states citizen by virtue of his birth in Honolulu, Hawaii Aug. 4, 1961.

He is living with the applicants’ spouse in Honolulu.

He is considered the applicants step-child, within the meaning of Sec. 101(b)(1)(B), of the act, by virtue of the marriage of the applicant to the childs’ mother on March 15, 1965.”

The person writing the document does not reference having examined any birth-certificate document to establish the citizenship of Barack Obama Jr.

Instead, the memorandum suggests it’s written as a result of a conversation, possibly with Obama’s mother, in which the information was conveyed by her and simply accepted as offered, without documentary verification.

In contrast, various forms in the Freedom of Information Act release clearly indicate when corroborating documents have been presented.

For instance, an examining Immigration and Naturalization Service and State Department official filing a particular report had examined the divorce decree between Barack Obama’s mother and his father, Barack Obama Sr., to establish that the parents were legally divorced.

In the two separate releases of Freedom of Information Act documents July 29, what should have been a clear opportunity to see a birth certificate for Barack Obama Jr. was lost when the State Department destroyed any and all passport documents that may have existed for Dunham prior to 1968.

The released State Department documents make clear that Barack Obama Jr. was listed on his mother’s passport.

However, as WND has previously reported, the State Department claims Dunham’s application for her 1965 U.S. Passport No. 777788, issued July 19, 1965, was destroyed at some unspecified time in the 1980s, apparently pursuant to a General Services Administration directive.

Lacking Dunham’s application for her 1965 U.S. passport, it is impossible to determine what documentation, if any, she submitted to the State Department to establish her son was a U.S. citizen.

WND has reported that in a passport amendment submitted Aug. 13, 1968, Obama’s mother identified her son with an Indonesian surname and asked the State Department to drop him from her U.S. passport,

*** bolstering evidence Barack Obama Jr. became a citizen of Indonesia when he moved to the Southeast Asian nation with his mother and stepfather in the late 1960s. ***

The Post & Email gets mainstream media coverage

Not one U.S. hospital claims the birth of the “first black president.” Why not?

Why won’t Dr. Fukino and Janice Okubo provide index data to support the public statements they have made about Obama’s birth records?

Why won’t Governor Lingle, who claimed several months ago that Obama was born at Kapiolani Medical Center?

Why do reports exist which state that he was born at Queens Medical Center from the time when he was a senator?

Why won’t Kapiolani verify Lingle’s claim?

Why did Kapiolani publish an electronic “letter” from Obama stating his birthplace there but remove it when confronted?

Why has the media previously reported that Obama was born in two different hospitals?

Moreover, Obama’s minions refuse to answer the question, or are unable to.

What the mainstream media fails to report is that there are five different ways for a person to obtain a Certification of Live Birth from the Hawaii Department of Health, including as an adult.

Particularly in the 1960s when there were numerous immigrants coming in to the new state, a child born in a foreign country could have been registered with the Health Department based on the statement of a relative with no supporting documentation required.

She admitted that birth index data contains the year of birth.

It contradicts the earlier response from DoH.

Why did they provide index data without specifying Obama’s year of birth in their original response?

What other part(s) of birth index data have they refused to release to public?

Why do they hide the registration number?

    Excerpt

HH: I had a caller this week say that she was emotionally distraught at the prospect of paying a visit to the memorial there in a quiet time, and hearing the call to prayer.

And I’ve had other callers concern, and emails’ concern. If this is allowed at 600 feet, what else could be allowed around there?

CK: Well, there’s another thing, is at its, for those people who adhere to the ideology behind the perpetrators of 9/11, for radical Islam around the world, to see a 15 story mosque and Islamic center established, and as you say, for the sound of the call to prayer to be issued over 9/11, is to them a sign of triumph.

We attacked, and here in the heart of the great Satan, we are establishing a great monument to our radical ideology, is how they would see it.

And I think that’s not a triumph we want to give them.

HH: Robert Gibbs refused to answer questions about this. Do you think the president ought to answer questions? I think we ought to know what he thinks on this.

CK: Well, he dodged it by saying it’s a local event. It’s no more a local event than 9/11 was a local event for New York and Washington.

HH: I agree. Charles, before we run out of time, I also want to talk to you about the Prop. 8 decision, because it’s another example of breathtaking intellectual dishonesty.

The opinion’s very long, but it’s a very short opinion, really. It’s I’m changing the law of suspect classification and not telling you.

And I wonder if you think this will drive, you wrote in your column in the Post today, Annals Of Executive Overreach, about overreach.

But I’m beginning to think that the elites on the coasts are partially responsible for not just the economy, but responsible for 72% in Missouri saying no to Obamacare, that this is going to be who decides elections.

I wrote a column about this, this week, that the middle is going to say to the coasts, stop this.

You do not run our lives this way.

    What do you think?

CK: Well, I think this is a replay of the social division and discontent now for three decades over the abortion decision.

Ruth Bader Ginsberg, you know, liberal jurist on the Supreme Court, before she became a Supreme Court member, gave a speech in which she said that Roe V. Wade, and remember, she’s a liberal, preempted the sort of change that was already happening on abortion, and prevented a stable resolution of this issue, because it excluded popular will.

It became an inherent right, so called, in the Constitution, and you couldn’t affect it.

And that’s what’s going to happen here.

Everybody understands how the view about gay marriage is understanding, as younger people are more open to it are becoming older, and older people are dying off.

In California itself, there was a referendum on this eight years ago, ten years ago, in which gay marriage lost by 62%. Now, it’s 52.

We see where all of this is going.

And for the idea for judges to preempt this, and remove it entirely from the political arena and from the will of the people expressed either in referendum or through representatives in the legislature, is insane.

Yet this happened, and we’ll have a, you know, we’ll have states deciding on their own, as they should, D.C. decides, as Vermont decided to do it through popular expression in the legislatures.

That’s fine. We are, the states are the laboratories of democracy.

Oregon has assisted suicide, which I oppose. But it’s okay if it’s in one state, and the people have willed it. We will learn from it.

But to have one judge rule for the whole country, no state will be able to deny same sex marriage, if his ruling is upheld, which is not how a federal democracy should work.

Gov. Jan Brewer vs. Chuck Norris

    http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=189181

A few of my favorites about the Arizona governor are:

Jan Brewer flosses her teeth with barbed wire from the border.

Jan Brewer eats scorpions for breakfast and burps up rattlesnakes.

Jan Brewer taught Chuck Norris how to do a roundhouse kick.

The fact is Gov. Jan Brewer has tougher skin than me.

I’ve often said tongue-n-cheek that I would jump over a table and choke unconscious bad political opponents if I were running for office.

I commend Gov. Brewer not only for her courage and tenacity, but for doing what the federal government refuses to do: protect Americans from more border invasion.

A few years ago, then-presidential candidate Mike Huckabee had a little fun filming an election commercial with me in it, and saying:

“My plan to secure the borders – two words: Chuck Norris.”

Well, I join millions of others by saying that Arizona’s remedy for securing the borders is three words: Gov. Jan Brewer.

As far as feeling safe, I can tell you that not only is there no comparison between these two periods, but things have gotten progressively worse even since 2007.

I’m a democrat who supported Bush’s comprehensive immigration reform in 2007 along with Senators McCain and Kyl.

So long as Mexico remains unsafe and our Tuscon sector remains unsecured, my family is not safe.

    Who’s to blame?

Blame Calderon for the mess he’s made of Mexico.

Blame recreational drug users in the United States who are complicit in every single drug-related act of horror both below and above the border.

Blame Obama and Napolitano who conspire to keep the Tucson sector open in order to have a bargaining chip in future negotiations.

And blame every single pundit who perpetuates the lie that Arizona is safe enough, when we Arizonans know deep down that we are in survival mode.

In a word, we are human.

Krugman’s detour on ‘Roadmap’ to solvency

    By Paul Ryan

    Aug. 7, 2010

    http://www.jsonline.com/news/opinion/100160259.html

Krugman also recycles the disingenuous claim that the “Roadmap” – the only proposal certified to make our entitlement programs solvent – would “end Medicare as we know it.”

Ironically, doing nothing, as Democrats would prefer, is certain to end entitlement programs as we know them, and in the process, beneficiaries would face painful cuts to these programs.

Conversely, the “Roadmap” would pre-empt these cuts in a way that prevents unnecessary disruptions for current beneficiaries.

It reforms Medicare and Social Security so those in and near retirement (55 and older) will see no change in their benefits while preserving these programs for future generations of Americans.

We do not have a choice on whether Medicare and Social Security will change from their current structure – the true debate is if and how these programs will be made solvent.

Far from the “radical” label that critics have tried to pin on it, the Medicare reforms in the “Roadmap” are based on suggestions made by the National Bipartisan Commission on the Future of Medicare, chaired by Sen. John Breaux (D-La.).

That commission recommended in 1999 “modeling a system on the one members of Congress use to obtain health care coverage for themselves and their families.”

With respect to Medicare and Social Security, the “Roadmap” puts in place systems similar to those members of Congress have.

There has been support across the political spectrum for these types of reforms.

By dismissing credible proposals as “flimflam,” critics such as Krugman contribute nothing to the debate.

Standing on the sidelines shouting “boo” amounts to condemning our people to a future of managed decline.

Absent serious reform, spending on entitlement programs and interest on government debt will consume more and more of the federal budget, resulting in falling standards of living and higher taxes as we try to sustain an ever larger social welfare state.

The American people deserve a serious and civil discussion about how to reduce our exploding debt and deficit.

By relying on ad-hominem attacks and discredited claims, Krugman and others are missing an opportunity to contribute to this discussion and are only polarizing and paralyzing attempts to solve our nation’s fiscal problems.

I reject the notion that these problems are too big or too difficult to tackle or that it is acceptable to leave future generations of Americans an inferior standard of living than we enjoy.

The “Roadmap” shows that a European-style social welfare state is not inevitable, that it is not too late for our nation to choose a different path and that we can do so in a way that preserves our freedoms and traditions.

Senate Democrats, Republicans Still Differ on Spending Levels

Some top Senate Democrats say no final decision has been made about whether they will further reduce discretionary spending levels for fiscal 2011 to meet Senate GOP demands.

But Republicans appear confident they will prevail.

    [….]

Senate Republicans say they will not vote for any spending bills if total discretionary spending for the year exceeds $1.108 trillion, a plan for which 18 Democrats voted for at one point this year.

And the GOP is promoting the idea that an agreement has essentially been reached, with McConnell spotlighting it at a meeting last week with reporters.

“That is going to be done on a bipartisan basis before the end of the year,” he said.

New Hampshire’s Judd Gregg , the top Republican on the Senate Budget Committee, said in a news release:

    Congressman: Obama ‘enjoying’ eligibility dispute

‘You don’t have to be born in the United States to be president’

    http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=189629

    U.S. Rep. Brian Bilbray, R-Calif.

    Excerpt

Adding fuel to the fire is Obama’s persistent refusal to release documents that could provide answers and his appointment of lawyers to defend against all requests for his documentation.

At stake is whether the U.S. actually has elected and sworn into office a presidential candidate who does not meet the Constitution’s demands for eligibility.

While his supporters cite an online version of a “Certification of Live Birth” from Hawaii as his birth verification, critics point out such documents actually were issued for children not born in the state.

Bilbray disagreed with most of the arguments raised by the challenges.

He said a natural born citizen is someone who is born in the U.S. or overseas if the birth is registered with the government.

He said the key is having a parent who has an obligation to the United States, such as Obama’s mother.

Bilbray said it doesn’t matter that Obama’s father, governed by his Kenyan nationality, was a British subject when Obama was born.

*** But he also explained parents can denounce a U.S. citizenship for a child, and that’s why Obama critics should be hunting not for any birth documentation but the passports on which Obama traveled earlier in his life. ***

Personally, Bilbray said he believes Obama was born in Hawaii, “but I don’t know what his status is.”

“He’s a U.S. citizen until proven otherwise,” he said.

“I think the president is enjoying this exercise,” he told WND.

“I think he doesn’t want to clarify it.

    I think he’s enjoying it.

“It’s an exercise that he uses to try to discredit his opponents.

(I agree. And this would make Obama a very sick person. i.e., Obama enjoys “birthers” being labeled crazy and racists.)

A lot of this is a distraction.

This citizenship issue is used as a way of distracting from what he’s doing politically,” he said.

He called Obama the “most extreme left-wing president ever.”

And also the most divisive president ever.

As WMR previously reported, “At the same time he was attending Occidental [College in Los Angeles, 1979-81], Obama, using the name Barry Soetoro and an Indonesian passport issued under the same name, traveled to Pakistan during the U.S. buildup to assist the Afghan mujaheddin.

WMR has learned from informed sources in Kabul that Obama has been extremely friendly, through personal correspondence on White House letterhead, with a private military company that counts among its senior personnel a number of Afghan mujaheddin-Soviet war veterans who fought alongside the late Northern Alliance commander Ahmad Shah Masood.

Dr. C – you presented this article not as a knowledgeable reference on surveys – which it was not – but as yet another attack piece on “Birthers,” that just so happen to touch on one “Birther survey” conducted by the Daily Kos, written by an anonymous author.

The quote about how people respond was simply a hook to bring in your readers.

The point of my post was totally missed by the people who, once again, devolved into ad hominem arguments to make their point.

The discussion following my information piece does little to assuage the belief that liberals always turn every discussion started by someone who does not agree with them into a personal attack.

    (Boy, and how!)

The reason for doing so is to absolve them of ever having to actually process what was written.

It does not matter that I have 38 years of experience in designing and conducting large-scale surveys, because the lunatic fringe who attacked me would simply find another way to denigrate that as well.

So far, I have yet to see anything resembling an intelligent, well-thought out discussion by those arrogantly claiming to be smart and highly educated.

Factcheck? Politifact? Honolulu Advertiser? C’mon, Doc. These are not part of the “Mainstream Media.”

As I said, what does matter is how you ask the question and what are the choices given.

The example you gave, ” “Are you sure Barack Obama was born in the United States?” is a loaded question designed to prompt uncertainty.

The CNN question did nothing of the sort.

Their question was worded unambiguously and the choices given were equally balanced.

The point I made is valid – that the way the question is worded and presented, along with the choices that are given, significantly effect the outcome of the survey far more than any heuristics involved in choosing the answer that best fits their interpetation and understanding.

HH: So what do you think the Israelis are going to do?

VDH: Well, I think they’re going to act.

I think they’re going to reach a critical point of no return, and it’s probably around six months, and the end of the year, or early next winter,

and they’re going to decide that they have to act, and they’re going to act with the full knowledge that it’s a bad choice, and the worst is allowing these people to intimidate them for the next fifty years.

HH: Now there have been efforts in the last three or four days to start a problem on the Lebanese border.

The Lebanese army fired and killed an Israeli colonel. There have been subsequent confrontations there on the border.

Do you think they’re trying, they being Hezbollah and their allies within the Lebanese army, and Syria, are trying to start a war right now?

VDH: I don’t know if they’re trying to start a war, because for all the talk that Israel lost the 2006 war, they inflicted a lot of damage on Hezbollah, about $10 billion dollars in infrastructure.

But I do think that they feel that for the first time in a half century, there’s a lot of distance between the United States and Israel, and in that void, people have new opportunities that there weren’t before.

And if they can get into sort of a semi-war, hot war, cold war, an international incident we saw with the Turkish flotilla, then there’s going to be a likelihood that there will be acrimony between Israel and the United States, and that gap widens further.

And if you keep doing that, at some magical point, we will be neutrals, or even adversaries.

And I think that’s the strategy behind it.

HH: All right, now you watch the polls as closely as anyone.

What do you think is going to happen in November based upon all the data that you’ve had a chance to see?

VDH: I think the Republicans are going to take the House, and they’re going to come very close to taking the Senate.

And almost, Obama’s problem right now is he’s got a perfect storm.

He’s not engaged on Afghanistan, he’s got his advisors who are pretty much giving up on the stimulus/deficit plan of restoring the economy, he’s got some lunatic appointments that they’re almost like IED’s.

They go off at any given time.

We don’t know what the NASA guy’s going to say, we have Van Joneses sprinkled throughout the administration. That’s kind of scary.

And he’s fighting right now an image of, as we see on the blogs, of Marie Antoinette with his wife, that these people either play golf or they go to Costa del Sol when they lecture the country that at some point, a person’s made enough money.

This populist rhetoric does not go well with an aristocratic lifestyle, even though it’s symbolic.

And so they’ve got a lot of things going on, and the result of that is he’s getting to the 40%.

And as you know better than I, when he gets to 40% approval rating, a lot of Democrats simply will vote present, and they don’t want him in the district, and they’ll be running either against him, or triangulate about him.

HH: And how much, last question, Victor, how much do you think the chaos in Mexico is beginning to seep into people’s actual consciousness as to how they vote?

VDH: Well, 70%. And we see the violence, the drug violence…that’s another perfect storm.

We have a recession here, people are out of work, we have, it’s getting a critical implosion with 15 million now, it’s not just 10 million, 15 million illegal aliens.

We have, in a recession, people can’t get work, and we have an administration that’s stealthily trying to offer amnesty.

And you put all that together, and you get a 70% approval rating nationwide for the Arizona statute.

    http://blogs.reuters.com/james-pethokoukis/2010/08/10/once-more-on-blinder-zandi-and-the-obama-stimulus/

Many of us who supported the administration’s call for a stimulus in early 2009 recommended the reduction of the payroll tax for both employers and employees, something with the same net revenue effect as what was passed.

Such a payroll tax cut would have provided an incentive at the margin for continued work and employment for more than 90 percent of the labor force.

The tax provision in the actual stimulus that passed did so

*** for less than 15 percent of the labor force ***

    Dreams of Barack Obama’s Father

    http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,598943,00.html

BARACK OBAMA, PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES: Generally, the Constitution is a charter of negative liberties, says what the states can’t do to you, says what the federal government can’t do to you.

But it doesn’t say what the federal government or the state government must do on your behalf.

    (END AUDIO CLIP)

BECK: Like this one does. Now, Kenya seems to be a document of positive liberties.

In Section 33 of the new constitution under the heading “Freedom of Expression,” it outlines a few other specifics.

“The right to freedom of expression does not extend to propaganda for war, incitement to violence, hate speech or advocacy of hatred.

That constitutes ethnic incitement, vilification of others or incitement to cause harm, or is based on any ground of discrimination specified or contemplated in Article 27(4).

In the exercise of right to freedom of expression, every person shall respect the rights and reputation of others.”

Now, I don’t know about you, but I’m sure incitement to violence or hate speech or advocacy shouldn’t be at all difficult to define.

It won’t have a problem with that one at all.

The dreams of his father had been realized in Kenya late last week.

Did you know that? Does he know that?

Are they — are they unrelated? Is this unrelated to the dreams of his son?

Because the dreams of his son seem almost — almost like the dreams of his father.

And they’re not dreams of my dad. I doubt they’re the dreams of yours.

The dreams of my father were that we would be able to make our own way in life.

I think those are the dreams of Martin Luther King’s father as well.

The vast majority of Americans share the dreams of our forefathers – – not the nightmares

    — the dreams, the aspirations, the hopes, the goal —

the dreams responsible for creating the reality of the freest, most prosperous and the most generous nation to ever exist on Earth.

Another thing America has to decide.

What were the dreams from his father, and his grandfather — that have now after all these years been realized?

And, is the son and grandson pursuing those same just goals against colonialism here?

We know this from requests to HI Dept of Health.

(It seems he has an incomplete filing on record).

You see, he needed to get a short form, certification of live birth, like the image he posted online, that says “born in Honolulu..

Somebody requested to see the records of Obama’s amendment and the HDOH denied access to those records, which is an admission that they exist.

We know that the note of the amendment should be on the Factcheck COLB because the HDOH Administrative Rules say that any certificate the HDOH prints out (which includes the standard long-form OR the abbreviated COLB) must have note of amendments.

The HDOH confirmed in an e-mail to me that the COLB is the “abbreviated birth certificate” referred to in the Administrative Rules.

The nitty-gritty details and documentation are posted on my blog but that’s the short answer.

The vaunted Obama economic stimulus, at $862 billion, has failed.

The “progressives” want to double down, and were they to have their way, would have pushed for a bigger stimulus still.

But the American people are in open rebellion against an economic strategy of public debt, higher taxes and unending deficits.

We’re not all Keynesians, it turns out.

The panic that propelled Mr. Obama to the presidency has waned.

There is deep concern, to be sure.

But the Obama strategy has lost the consent of the governed.

    [….]

It is in the nature of charisma that it rises out of thin air, out of need and distress, and then dissipates when the magic fails.

The country has had its fill with a scapegoating that knows no end from a president who had vowed to break with recriminations and partisanship.

John Barrasso (Wyo.), Richard Burr (N.C.), Tom Coburn (Okla.), John McCain (Ariz.) and John Thune (S.D.) requested that HHS pull a recently launched Medicare advertising campaign, featuring television star Andy Griffith, and reimburse the U.S. Treasury for any taxpayer funds used.

HHS last week began a $700,000 TV ad campaign featuring Griffith, who touts new perks for seniors under the health reform law, such as no-cost check-ups and lower prescription costs (Lillis, “Healthwatch,” The Hill, 8/3).

In the past 2-1/2 years, government spending as a share of the overall economy has gone from 20 percent to 24 percent, and is rising.

“The question is, how do we bring the government back down, but how do we do it in a way that doesn’t stifle this recovery — to the extent we’re having a recovery,” said Sen. Judd Gregg of New Hampshire, a member of the deficit commission and top-ranking Republican on the Senate Budget Committee, at an Aug. 3 hearing of that panel.

“If we act precipitously to try to control the deficit, do we end up stifling the recovery?”

If the US economy grows at a 4 percent annual rate, $8.5 trillion will be added to the federal deficit from 2010 to 2020, the White House projects.

If annual growth in the gross domestic product averages only 3 percent during that time, deficits would be $2 trillion higher, according to the White House Office of Management and Budget.

(For comparison, the latest GDP report, for the second quarter of 2010, said the economy was growing at an annual rate of 2.4 percent.)

The independent Congressional Budget Office calls the current fiscal course unsustainable.

By 2054, the national debt will be 400 percent of GDP, the CBO projects.

“Unless policymakers restrain the growth of spending, increase revenues significantly as a share of GDP, or adopt some combination of those two approaches, growing budget deficits will cause debt to rise to unsupportable levels,” concludes the CBO in a July 27 briefing paper.

In the face of such warnings, Democrats have felt compelled to defend their general approach of spending now to support the recovery.

The reason “Barry” returned to Hawaii in 1969 was to finalize the Soetoro adoption which began after Stanley Ann and Lolo were married in 1965.

BHO II doesn’t mention the return trip to Hawaii in 1969 in any of his biographies because the Soetoro adoption was annulled in late 1971.

    [….]

Obama was in Indonesia from ages 6 to 10.

There is nothing on the public record to indicate that he sent any condolences or even acknowledged the death of his stepsister in February.

The Indonesian obituaries also state Lia was born in 1957 and that she had three children with her husband, Edi Sobah, with whom she lived in West Java, Indonesia.

A photograph of Lia shows her holding a monkey doll and wearing clothes given her by Madelyn Dunham, Obama’s maternal grandmother, when Lia visited Hawaii for three months.

The visit apparently was in 1971, the year Obama left Indonesia permanently.

Obama also does not discuss in his autobiography “Dreams from My Father” any visits to Hawaii after he left Indonesia permanently in 1971 that were made by Lolo Soetoro or a Soetoro stepsister from Indonesia.

While Obama has not acknowledged having had a stepsister in Indonesia, he discussed at length in his autobiography his half-sister, Maya Soetoro-Ng, who was born in Indonesia to Lolo Soetoro and Ann Dunham on Aug. 15, 1970.

WND has reported that in a passport amendment submitted Aug. 13, 1968, Obama’s mother identified her son with an Indonesian surname as Barack Obama II Soebarkah, and asked the State Department to drop him from her U.S. passport.

The transaction could have been part of an effort by Dunham to obtain Indonesian citizenship for her son.

WND also reported in August 2008 that the Associated Press published a photograph purportedly of Obama’s registration card at Indonesia’s Francis Assisi school.

The card showed he was enrolled as “Barry Soetoro” and listed as an Indonesian citizen whose official religious identification was Muslim.

An AP spokesman affirmed to WND that the photograph was authentic.

Exactly what rights and responsibilities does an Commissioned Officer in the US Military have afforded to them, under the UCMJ or any other legally binding document, if they believe an unlawful order has been given to them directly by a superior officer?

Lakin used Article 138 of the UCMJ to make a complaint for redress noted in his Timeline below, which includes orders that are beyond the legitimate authority (Obama “BHO” the usurper) of a commander or commanders.

A birth certificate is a vital record containing the facts of a birth event.

The birth certificate is prima facie evidence that the birth occurred and is inconsistent with establishing Natural born status.

For example, John McCain does not have a birth certificate from any U.S. institution.

He has a Certificate of U.S. Citizenship issued by the U.S. State Department.

As Congress has resolved, McCain is a Natural born citizen without a birth certificate issued by any US institution.

We have seen through the study of Soebarkah’s life, a US citizen born in the United States may relocate to a foreign country and request the issuance of a Certificate of Loss of Nationality by the U.S. Department of State.

Once the CLN is issued, Natural born citizenship status is lost.

At best, Soebarkah could have emigrated back to the US as a permanent resident and then naturalize as a US Citizen.

BHO II has denied he is or was Barry Soetoro.

So, first things first, the Soetoro adoption papers in Hawaii was be unsealed.

Or, BHO’s II Form SS-5 from SSA and his Certificate of Naturalization from USCIS must be unsealed.

Apparently, Lakin wants to go to Hawaii.

HH: Well, I don’t know. We’ve got Jimmy Carter and George Herbert Walker Bush, two of the last five presidential elections.

It seems to me it goes back and forth, Mike Allen.

MA: Okay, well, we’ll buy that, but I can tell you that’s why the White House is so excited about yesterday’s results, because they haven’t had anything good to talk about in a long time.

And this Colorado result, the victory of Senator Michael Bennet, was a chance for them to say hey, we still have mojo.

    This president has…

HH: Well you know, Mike, I read John Harris’ piece at Politico, and I’ve got to say, the one thing I didn’t see covered well, Jane Norton got more votes losing than Michael Bennet got winning.

It’s the same thing we saw in Missouri, the same thing we saw in Georgia.

    Yeah, the left turned out…

MA: Yeah, so you’re saying there’s an intensity issue.

HH: Yes, I’m saying that Michael Bennet’s going to get wiped out by Ken Buck. What do you think?

MA: (laughing) I don’t know, but I can tell you the press loves the fact that Ken Buck, he’ll definitely be covered.

Very colorful, he definitely will be good copy.

It’s just like the dream of every reporter is that the Republicans will pick up nine seats, and that Marco Rubio wins in Florida, because Hugh, you know what that means?

    HH: Impeachment! No. (laughing)

MA: That’s a 50-50 Senate. That’s power sharing. Ben Nelson suddenly is huge.

HH: No, we’re hoping that that means that we will extend the Bush tax cuts.

Last question, Mike, the economy is crying out for tax relief, certainty and stability.

Is there anyone in the West Wing who has a clue about why the economy has stalled out, and what they have to do?

MA: Oh, sure they do. And here’s a big problem. And I can’t pinpoint exactly when this happened, but it is a momentous tectonic change.

Andrea Mitchell said it in plain language on Meet The Press on Sunday, and that is

*** the economy will not be noticeably better, there will not be a clear recovery on election day ***

Is there a limit to toleration? Fortunately, this ruling from this guy was overturned. How does this guy still have a job?

Nothing gives the man a right to rape his wife or anyone. Nothing. That’s unrighteous dominion.

This judge said it was OK because he believed his religion gave him a right.

Oh. Oh, well, if God says it’s OK, I’m sure you’ll be fine with Christians that go out and shoot abortion doctors as you always like to publish.

The Christians were doing — well, their God said that that was OK.

Would it be OK — Judge, would it be OK if they just raped — married and then raped the abortion doctors?

Would that be OK if their religion — by the way, his name is Joseph Charles — Judge Joseph Charles.

Our problem — our problem is not just in Washington. It’s with the courts. And it’s not just with the courts, it’s in here, each of us.

We want to get along with everybody. That’s what makes us uniquely American. We’re a melting pot.

Nobody wants to hate somebody because of their religion. Some people do and they’re crackpots.

If they want to build a mosque, I will stand shoulder to shoulder to do that.

I can be friends with a Muslim. That’s tolerance.

The federal deficit commission, he says, will take a look at a reform bill proposed by him and Sen. Judd Gregg, a Republican from New Hampshire.

    The package is comprehensive.

As outlined on Wyden’s website, it first of all would simplify the federal income tax and make it fairer.
